The body style of the new 1959 Impala was once again radically redesigned from that of the '58. The 1959 Impala roofline was a full three inches lower and the body was two inches wider. The most stunning feature of the new '59 Impala had to be the protruding tail fins which now housed a pair of very large single "teardrop" taillights. Some refer to these taillights as "cat eyes." The headlights of the Impala were a full seven inches lower than the previous year. The "teardrop" design was also featured on the hood vents of the '59. The trunk area of the '59 Impala was one of Chevrolets largest measuring 32 cubic feet. In 1959 the Impala was a separate line including four-door hardtop, four-door sedan as well as the two-door sport coupe and convertible. The 1959 Impala production totaled approx 473,000 units.
