About
The body style of the new 1960 Impala was, as one designer stated, "toned down with a more conservative look". By 1960 it appeared that the fin and chrome days had run there course. The Impala now featured a softened rear-end look with reshaped and separated tailfins. In 1960 Chevrolet once again went back to the Impala triple-light design with back-up lights centered and splitting stop/taillights. In 1960 Chevrolet marketing began using the term "jet-smooth." This "jet-smooth" theme carried over in the aircraft "jets" featured on the side molding of the 1960 models. The 1960 Impala can be easily identified by the painted quarter panel insert between the quarter panel moldings. If the '60 Impala owner was looking for raw power then the 348ci. engine featuring the triple two-barrel carburetors was just the combination. With 11.25:1 compression and dual exhaust this unit put out 335 horsepower.
