1968 Chevrolet Impala & Impala Super Sport

With waning interest in sporty big cars the Impala Super Sport was now available only as an option. For sporty cars the Chevrolet customer was turning to the Chevelle and Camaro lines. The 1968 Impala did receive a new facelift with a re-design of the front end. The rear bumper now housed triple horseshoe shaped tail, brake and back-up lights. 1968 also saw the introduction of a new Impala model, the Impala Custom Coupe. This two-door hardtop featured the same formal roofline as the Caprice Coupe. This new model was a huge success for Chevrolet Motor Division. Production of one of the greatest small block V8 engines ended in 1968. The ever popular 283ci engine was replaced by the new 307ci design.
